a bear
- climb a tree
- don't run around or struggle - you'll only upset it
- bears are faster runners than you - and contrary to myth they go pretty fast downhill too
- if all else fails play dead. keep your backpack on; it's extra protection
a big cat
- don't run away - they will chase you
- fight back - grab anything you can as a weapon and hit it in the head. protect your neck!
- don't play dead or go into a fetal position: they will think you are a small animal and be less afraid of you
a crocodile
- stay on land
- run away in a straight line. crocodiles hate to chase things
- make a lot of noise - they don't like that
- try poking it in the eyes
- if it rolls, go in the same direction so you don't lose a limb
- you can try playing dead, as they'll think you drowned and might let you loose
a shark
- don't hit it with your bare hands and feet if you can avoid it
- if you must - concentrate on its sensitive eyes and gills
- most sharks won't bite you twice, but you should get out of the water as quickly and clamly as possible to avoid bleeding around them
a wolf
- make yourself look bigger
- maintain eye contact
- back away slowly
- if it goes for you, grab both sides of the head and immobilise the jaws. You'll probably get bitten quite a lot unless you've practiced this
